A City of Neighborhoods Behind the Downtown
White Plains is a city and the county seat of Westchester County. Behind its downtown it is a city of single-family neighborhoods — Gedney, Battle Hill, Fisher Hill, the Highlands, Prospect Park, Rosedale, Haviland Manor, Carhart and North Street. The southern part of the city is primarily single-family housing.
What that means for a remodel is that most of the work here happens in houses, not towers. The downtown gets the attention, but the neighborhoods are where the kitchens, bathrooms and additions get built, and the City's building department handles the permits for them.
The County Seat: Where Contractor Licenses Come From
The Westchester County Department of Consumer Protection, which licenses home improvement contractors, is in White Plains. Its number is (914) 995-2155. That is the County's number, not ours — our number is (914) 474-1951.
We hold a Westchester County Home Improvement License, number WC-33098-H20. You can and should check any contractor's license with the County, including ours. The license runs for two years, so it is worth confirming it is current. Read more about what the license tells you on our hiring a contractor page.
Permits Come From the City
The City of White Plains Department of Building is at 70 Church Street, (914) 422-1269. That is the City's number, not ours — our number is (914) 474-1951.
We hold a Westchester County Home Improvement License, number WC-33098-H20, and we pull the permits for the work we do through the City department. We do not start the work before the permit is in place. Read more on our permits and licensing page.
Design Review: Ask First
The City has a Design Review Board. Whether a one-family house project is referred to it is a question for the Department of Building — it depends on the project.
We do not guess. We find out from the Department of Building whether your project goes to design review before we draw anything, so the answer is settled before the permit application goes in. An interior kitchen or bathroom remodel is a different question from an addition that changes the outside of the house.
What We Do in White Plains
We do four things, all residential. Kitchen remodeling — the full job, layout to finish. Bathroom remodeling — the full renovation, subfloor up. Home additions — bedrooms, bathrooms and living space built onto the house. And home remodeling — several rooms or the whole house as one project.
Our projects start at $40,000, and we do not do handyman work or small repairs. Anthony Quattrone has more than 40 years of experience and is on the job himself. The estimates are free, and the work carries a one-year warranty. If your project fits, call us or request a free estimate.
Where We Work
We work in Westchester County, New York, and only there. White Plains is one of the towns we serve.
